Lok Shakti Sangathan filed a petition in the Patna High Court on Wednesday demanding reservation for scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, backward communities and women in panchayat elections due to be held a week later, as per the provisions in the constitution. The petition said that panchayat election in Bihar, being held after 22 years, in violation of constitutional provisions, would deprive 80 tribes, 1,347 Dalit communities and women representing 1,465 other classes of an opportunity to become mukhiya. In its effort to build up opinion agains the violation of the Constitution, Lok Shakti Sangathan held a dharna at JP roundabout near Gandhi Maidan.
